NWPRRHS and Sturgeons Mill Visit - June 21
GGRM members are invited to attend special tours of the NWPRR Historical Society
restoration facility and the Sturgeons Mill Restoration Project steam powered sawmill
on June 21, 2015.
Northwestern Pacific Railroad Historical Society Restoration Facility
We will meet at 10am at the restoration facility of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad
Historical Society and tour several current projects. The gem of this visit will
be the Petaluma & Santa Rosa #1 caboose. The caboose was rescued by GGRM from
an auto sales lot on the peninsula and donated to the NWPRRHS in 2005. The quality
and attention to detail of this restoration have to be seen to be believed. The
site is located off of the E Washington Ave exit of 101 in Petaluma. Go west on
E. Washington to one block west of the depot to
110 Baylis Street in Petaluma.
Form more information, see the Northwestern Pacific Railroad Historical Society
website at http://www.nwprrhs.org
Sturgeon's Mill Restoration Project
we are off to Sturgeon’s Mill Restoration Project. It was opened at the present
site in 1924 and was in operation until the early 1960's. Sitting in a large redwood
grove, the fully operational steam powered mill hosts tours and demonstrations all
day. There is a snack bar on site. This is one of the few weekends of the year when
year the site is operating. It will be open from 10am to 3pm. The mill is
located at 2150
Green Hill Road in Sebastopol.
